L'histoire des jeux
The World Transplant Games started in 1978. The games have grown since the beginning, where they attracted around 100 competitors, to an international event with over 2’000 participants in the summer. The winter games take place every other year, between the summer games.
The World Transplant Games Federation has over 60 member countries, most of which have their own transplant sports organisation.
The World Transplant Games are a unique event to show thanks to donor families and to promote organ donation. The games are a wonderful way to show the world what organ donation can achieve. To be eligible to compete, an athlete must have undergone a kidney, liver, heart, lung (single or double), pancreas or bone marrow transplant.
The World Transplant Games are an event where everyone is a winner. Every competitor has been saved by a vital transplant. The games are a homage to the lives of all organ donors and a testimony of the quality of life post-transplant.
