Rawilpass Mule Packer Trekking
In the middle ages, the Rawilpass was used to take wine from the Valais and cheese and cattle from Simmental. This historical mule path provides a unique trekking experience and is explored in small groups, accompanied by three mules and an outdoor guide.
The mule trek takes you over the Rawilpass, which is steeped in history. Spectacular archaeological finds from the Bronze Age and Roman era provide evidence that the link between Simmental and Rhonetal was used in ancien timse. The Rawilpass was significant from the late middle ages, primarily for exchanging goods between Ayent and Lenk. The trek will take you back in time to the era of the active pack mule trails with stories by Hansueli Weber and the mules guiding the way. The mules, flora and fauna, a few nibbles in the Valais, history, good wine and cheese are the focus of this trek.
Participants will be interested in history from the time of the active pack mule trails and in nature and landscape. They will also have wanderlust and the stamina to partake in day trks with a 600 and 1,000-metre difference in altitude as well as hiking equipment and a desire to share this experience with like-minded people. The mule packer trek includes challenging stages and requires good physical fitness and free from goddiness. The route passes over mountain trails. You will need to bring walking boots and comfortable walking clothes and waterproofs with you. Well broken-in footwear is an advantage when it comes to preventing blisters. Rucksack containing your luggage to be tied on to the mules. Daypack with drinking bottle and / or thermos flask. For the overnight stay at Gite de Lourantze, a sil or cotton sleeping bag.
Accomodation is based on twin and multi-bed rooms.Tasty food is provided along the way. The luggage is carried by the mules; you will only need to carry one daysack yourself.
You will be walking in samll groups with a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 12. The trek takes place in any weather. The participants are responsible for insurance.
