The picturesque ancient buildings and chapels in all the villages of the commune of Ayent take you back into the past.
The region is covered by several « bisses »of long date. The Ayent bisse, also called the Grand Bisse (given its delivery rate of over 550 litres per second) dates from 1448. This Grand Bisse takes an audacious and impressive path through wild precipitous country and is used for providing water for the people in the high mountain pastures. In times of drought, it is also used for irrigation of the vineyards.
