Situated in the centre of Vales, the Ayent / Ensure region enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with very little rainfall. To overcome the irrigation problem, the area is dotted with many artificial waterways, with a total length of 70 km.
Nowadays, 3 main waterways serve this region from end to end. Other waterways are disused and abandoned, one of those is lthe Audannes bisse, with its source at the Audannes Glacier at 2600 metres altitude.
Today, waterworks technology replaces these waterways, and they have become obsolete and and stand as relics of the past. A walk along the borders of some of these old waterways will lead you through some very natural territory.
